Heather Woof

Genre: Jewellery

Recent graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Heather takes much of her inspiration for her jewellery from her drawing and these two practises are very closely related for her. She constructs detailed fine line drawings that often start as doodles and develop intuitively through exploring complex pattern and repetition. In her jewellery she often uses methodical techniques with both sheet and wire and combines these controlled processes with those that can yield unexpected results such as fusing, enamelling and oxidisation. Working predominantly with silver and gold, Heather tries to construct her jewellery in the same way she builds up a drawing, working intuitively and responding to the piece as it develops. She describes her work as being about this balance between obsessive control and chance.
