Hendrike Barz Meltzer
Hendrike Barz Meltzer is a German-born jewellery designer who is based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England.
The inspiration for her pieces stem from a variety of sources. It is often a preference for the abstract, the simplicity of lines, the combination of different materials (often un-precious), such as her recent work with the ancient Japanese braiding technique Kumihimo. It also lies in her admiration for plants, but is also very simply based on her fascination with the design-process - the pursuance of an ‘idea’ and the satisfaction when its translation into tangible materials has been successfully merged.
Hendrike studied jewellery at Central St Martins and completed the course with a number of awards: First Prize in the Goldsmith's Craft Council Craftsmanship & Design Awards Junior Section 1996, Winner of the Goldsmith’s Craft Council Bursary Award 1996, Encouragement Prize in the 1997 JNWS International Jewellery Design Competition, Japan.
