Sir Muirhead Bone HRSA, HRSW, RE

Draughtsman, illustrator and painter Muirhead Bone was born in Glasgow, and originally trained as an architect. He went to evening classes at Glasgow School of Art and taught himself etching.  He settled in London in 1905 and established an international reputation, his prints commanding high prices. Appointed as the first War Artist (WW1) and he continued the role in World War Two. Architectural subjects, images of industrialisation and urban development were the main concerns of his prints of which he produced nearly 500.  Knighted in 1937.
